Bez-Ball Been Berry-Berry Good To Me

All of these players seem capable of helping the Astros on the field at some point in 2015, and there’s more where they came from. Prospects that are further away from the majors, like right-hander Michael Feliz or third baseman Colin Moran or left-hander Josh Hader or outfielder Domingo Santana, could be dealt for veteran help if and when Luhnow decides it’s time to step on his AL West rivals’ throats. And Appel, who is as much of an enigma as ever with a 6.03 ERA in Double-A, still has the stuff to dominate if he ever figures it out.
That’s why the rest of the AL West should be very concerned about the staying power of these Astros, not just in 2015, but for years to come: They’re playing this well before the cavalry has arrived. (Or in the case of Correa, the heavy artillery.) Plus, two of the finest minor league talents in the Astros’ portfolio haven’t even joined the organization yet. The Brady Aiken Debacle may have been a PR nightmare, but its on-field impact is much less significant, because thanks to the new CBA rules, as compensation for not signing the first pick in last year’s draft, the Astros get … the second pick in this year’s draft. They also earned the no. 5 overall pick by going 70-92 last year, giving them two of the top five picks in next month’s draft. No team has ever had two of the top 10picks, let alone two of the top five. Based on historic trends, and assuming the Astros don’t get tripped up by a physical again, their two picks should turn into a top-30 and a top-100 prospect when next year’s rankings come out.
Along with all of the prospects and young players that the Astros have amassed, they also have the payroll flexibility that comes from having a bunch of pre-arbitration, minimum-salaried guys on their roster. Their $72.5 million Opening Day payroll — nearly triple their 2013 payroll! — ranked 29th in baseball, ahead of only the Marlins. Comcast SportsNet Houston going bankrupt was a well-publicized debacle (yes, another one), but the Astros still play in the fifth-largest TV market in the country and can sustain a payroll twice the current size. The Astros have the ability, if not the desire, to sit at the big boys’ table in free agency.
As the Astros survey the landscape nearly a third of the way through the season, they’re probably acutely aware that they’ve been a little lucky so far — lucky to be 30-18 (their Pythagorean record, based on their run differential, is 27-21), and lucky to be in a division where no other team is above .500. So it might be tempting for the front office to think of 2015 as house money, to stay focused on building for 2016 and beyond, and to treat a playoff run this season as a pleasant fringe benefit.
But if it’s true that the Astros have benefited from good fortune this season, it’s also true that fortune favors the bold. No team should be so committed to its rebuilding plan that it refuses to alter its course when a division title presents itself years before anyone thought it possible. The Astros have enough major-league-ready talent in the minors to solidify their hold on the AL West this year — and they have enough additional talent coming through the pipeline, and enough money to burn in the future, that making some small sacrifices to win this year shouldn’t derail their plans to win for several more years to come.
If they haven’t already, it’s time for the other teams in the AL West to take notice: There’s a new power in the division, and it’s not going to fade anytime soon. The Astros were long a laughingstock, but there’s nothing funny about them now. Not the claim that they can win the division in 2015. And certainly not the claim that they could win a few more division titles after that.  {Retreived from Grantland }

World Renowned Heart Surgeon Speaks Out On

What Really Causes Heart Disease

Please scroll down for video

January 21, 2015 - We physicians with all our training, knowledge and authority often acquire a rather large ego that tends to make it difficult to admit we are wrong. So, here it is. I freely admit to being wrong.. As a heart surgeon with 25 years experience, having performed over 5,000 open-heart surgeries, today is my day to right the wrong with medical and scientific fact.

I trained for many years with other prominent physicians labelled “opinion makers.”  Bombarded with scientific literature, continually attending education seminars, we opinion makers insisted heart disease resulted from the simple fact of elevated blood cholesterol.

The only accepted therapy was prescribing medications to lower cholesterol and a diet that severely restricted fat intake. The latter of course we insisted would lower cholesterol and heart disease. Deviations from these recommendations were considered heresy and could quite possibly result in malpractice.

It Is Not Working!

These recommendations are no longer scientifically or morally defensible. The discovery a few years ago that inflammation in the artery wall is the real cause of heart disease is slowly leading to a paradigm shift in how heart disease and other chronic ailments will be treated.

The long-established dietary recommendations have created epidemics of obesity and diabetes, the consequences of which dwarf any historical plague in terms of mortality, human suffering and dire economic consequences.

Despite the fact that 25% of the population takes expensive statin medications and despite the fact we have reduced the fat content of our diets, more Americans will die this year of heart disease than ever before.

Statistics from the American Heart Association show that 75 million Americans currently suffer from heart disease, 20 million have diabetes and 57 million have pre-diabetes. These disorders are affecting younger and younger people in greater numbers every year.

Simply stated, without inflammation being present in the body, there is no way that cholesterol would accumulate in the wall of the blood vessel and cause heart disease and strokes. Without inflammation, cholesterol would move freely throughout the body as nature intended. It is inflammation that causes cholesterol to become trapped.

Inflammation is not complicated — it is quite simply your body’s natural defence to a foreign invader such as a bacteria, toxin or virus. The cycle of inflammation is perfect in how it protects your body from these bacterial and viral invaders. However, if we chronically expose the body to injury by toxins or foods the human body was never designed to process,a condition occurs called chronic inflammation. Chronic inflammation is just as harmful as acute inflammation is beneficial.

What thoughtful person would willfully expose himself repeatedly to foods or other substances that are known to cause injury to the body?  Well, smokers perhaps, but at least they made that choice willfully.

The rest of us have simply followed the recommended mainstream dietthat is low in fat and high in polyunsaturated fats and carbohydrates, not knowing we were causing repeated injury to our blood vessels. Thisrepeated injury creates chronic inflammation leading to heart disease, stroke, diabetes and obesity.

Let me repeat that: The injury and inflammation in our blood vessels is caused by the low fat diet recommended for years by mainstream medicine.

What are the biggest culprits of chronic inflammation? Quite simply, they are the overload of simple, highly processed carbohydrates (sugar, flourand all the products made from them) and the excess consumption of omega-6 vegetable oils like soybean, corn and sunflower that are found in many processed foods.

Take a moment to visualize rubbing a stiff brush repeatedly over soft skin until it becomes quite red and nearly bleeding. you kept this up several times a day, every day for five years. If you could tolerate this painful brushing, you would have a bleeding, swollen infected area that became worse with each repeated injury. This is a good way to visualize the inflammatory process that could be going on in your body right now.

Regardless of where the inflammatory process occurs, externally or internally, it is the same. I have peered inside thousands upon thousands of arteries. A diseased artery looks as if someone took a brush and scrubbed repeatedly against its wall. Several times a day, every day, the foods we eat create small injuries compounding into more injuries, causing the body to respond continuously and appropriately with inflammation.

While we savor the tantalizing taste of a sweet roll, our bodies respond alarmingly as if a foreign invader arrived declaring war. Foods loaded with sugars and simple carbohydrates, or processed withomega-6 oils for long shelf life have been the mainstay of the American diet for six decades. These foods have been slowly poisoning everyone.

How does eating a simple sweet roll create a cascade of inflammation to make you sick?

Imagine spilling syrup on your keyboard and you have a visual of what occurs inside the cell. When we consume simple carbohydrates such as sugar, blood sugar rises rapidly. In response, your pancreas secretes insulin whose primary purpose is to drive sugar into each cell where it is stored for energy. If the cell is full and does not need glucose, it is rejected to avoid extra sugar gumming up the works.

When your full cells reject the extra glucose, blood sugar rises producing more insulin and the glucose converts to stored fat.

What does all this have to do with inflammation? Blood sugar is controlled in a very narrow range. Extra sugar molecules attach to a variety of proteins that in turn injure the blood vessel wall. This repeated injury to the blood vessel wall sets off inflammation. When you spike your blood sugar level several times a day, every day, it is exactly like taking sandpaper to the inside of your delicate blood vessels.

While you may not be able to see it, rest assured it is there. I saw it in over 5,000 surgical patients spanning 25 years who all shared one common denominator — inflammation in their arteries.

Let’s get back to the sweet roll. That innocent looking goody not only contains sugars, it is baked in one of many omega-6 oils such as soybean. Chips and fries are soaked in soybean oil; processed foods are manufactured with omega-6 oils for longer shelf life. While omega-6’s are essential -they are part of every cell membrane controlling what goes in and out of the cell — they must be in the correct balance with omega-3’s.

If the balance shifts by consuming excessive omega-6, the cell membrane produces chemicals called cytokines that directly cause inflammation.

Today’s mainstream American diet has produced an extreme imbalance of these two fats. The ratio of imbalance ranges from 15:1 to as high as 30:1 in favor of omega-6. That’s a tremendous amount of cytokines causing inflammation. In today’s food environment, a 3:1 ratio would be optimal and healthy.

To make matters worse, the excess weight you are carrying from eating these foods creates overloaded fat cells that pour out large quantities of pro-inflammatory chemicals that add to the injury caused by having high blood sugar. The process that began with a sweet roll turns into a vicious cycle over time that creates heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetesand finally, Alzheimer’s disease, as the inflammatory process continues unabated.
There is no escaping the fact that the more we consume prepared and processed foods, the more we trip the inflammation switch little by little each day. The human body cannot process, nor was it designed to consume, foods packed with sugars and soaked in omega-6 oils.

There is but one answer to quieting inflammation, and that is returning to foods closer to their natural state. To build muscle, eat more protein. Choose carbohydrates that are very complex such as colorful fruits and vegetables. Cut down on or eliminate inflammation- causing omega-6 fats like corn and soybean oil and the processed foods that are made from them.

One tablespoon of corn oil contains 7,280 mg of omega-6; soybean contains 6,940 mg. Instead, use olive oil or butter from grass-fed beef.

Animal fats contain less than 20% omega-6 and are much less likely to cause inflammation than the supposedly healthy oils labelled polyunsaturated. Forget the “science” that has been drummed into your head for decades. The science that saturated fat alone causes heart disease is non-existent. The science that saturated fat raises blood cholesterol is also very weak. Since we now know that cholesterol is not the cause of heart disease, the concern about saturated fat is even more absurd today.
The cholesterol theory led to the no-fat, low-fat recommendations that in turn created the very foods now causing an epidemic of inflammation. Mainstream medicine made a terrible mistake when it advised people to avoid saturated fat in favor of foods high in omega-6 fats. We now have an epidemic of arterial inflammation leading to heart disease and other silent killers.
What you can do is choose whole foods your grandmother served and not those your mom turned to as grocery store aisles filled with manufactured foods. By eliminating inflammatory foods and adding essential nutrients from fresh unprocessed food, you will reverse years of damage in your arteries and throughout your body from consuming the typical American diet.

....BECAUSE THEY CAN!!!!

Uh Oh. Not this Weekend!

Uh Oh. Not this Weekend!

SHARKS at Sunset Beach, California…. Not what you want to hear about at a beach community going into the Memorial Day weekend.
More than a dozen juvenile great white sharks were spotted Tuesday night in the waters off Sunset Beach, in Huntington Beach, police said. A helicopter with the Huntington Beach Police Department spotted 13 6- to 10-foot sharks feeding in the water about 50 feet from the shore, Officer Jennifer Marlatt said. It was about 6 p.m. when the flight crew saw the young sharks. There were no swimmers or surfers in the water.
Reports of the sightings were forwarded to Huntington Beach lifeguards. No swim advisories or warning have been posted at Sunset Beach. The lifeguard unit has received other reports of shark sightings in recent weeks.
The juvenile sharks are typically between 5- to 6-feet and have been spotted swimming close to shore, lifeguard officials said.
IT IS UNCLEAR WHY THE SHARKS ARE SWIMMING CLOSE!!!!

Yael Eckstein...Woman of God

Representing Israel
May 14, 2015
Shalom,
As I stepped on the plane in Israel destined for Washington D.C. two weeks ago, I must admit that I felt a little nervous. With all of the rising tensions between the American and Israeli administrations, for the first time ever I felt nervous flying to Washington because I am an Israeli citizen – not that I was scared for my physical security, but was wary about the possible negative social implications of introducing myself to people as an Israeli.
During the 12 hour flight to America, horrible videos which I have seen online of anti-Israel protests ran through my mind. For a fleeting moment I thought about telling people I met in America that I was from Chicago instead of Israel, in order to avoid confrontation.
But then I remembered the big sign everyone who boards a flight at Ben Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv sees hanging on the wall. “When you travel abroad,” it says, “you are a goodwill ambassador for the state of Israel – represent us well.”
So I closed my eyes, turned my heart to the Lord, and asked Him for the wisdom and strength to represent my homeland properly. I asked Him to put supportive, positive people in my path, people who would help me fulfill my dream of bonding the American and Israeli people in brotherhood and friendship. And, as always, when I turned to God He faithfully answered.
“Tell people you are from Israel,” God placed in my heart. “You have the ability to give the people and State of Israel a good name – be a light unto the nations.”
I sat exhausted in the back of a cab on my way to the hotel in Washington DC, when the driver began speaking to me. “Where are you from?” he asked. “I’m from Israel,” I replied, holding my breath, wondering what his response would be. “Wow! I love Israel,” he replied. And for the entire remainder of that 40-minute drive, we shared stories of our homelands – he told me about Vietnam, and I told him about Israel.
As I exited the cab at the hotel, he said, with a firm handshake and a warm smile, “We are brothers and sisters. We all want the same thing: freedom.” And, indeed, he was exactly correct.
My first day in America was exciting and inspiring, as my prayers were answered and God placed exactly the right people in my path, from the friendly cab driver to the strangers I spoke to in the hotel elevator. But the first day was the easy day. It was on my second day in D.C. that I had to boldly represent my people on Capitol Hill.
I tossed and turned all night, anticipating that I might be met with rejection and hate from people like BDS and other anti-Israel activists. After all, from the way the news paints it, Israel has lots of vocal enemies and critics in D.C.
Yet none of that hatred materialized. I encountered no anti-Israel activists on the way to my speaking engagement, and when I entered the event room on Capitol Hill at the educational and advocacy event on Religious Persecution in the Middle East, everyone surrounded me with words of support, love, and encouragement.
Penny Nance, president of the Concerned Women for America, greeted me with her stunning smile, a warm hug, and lots of love. The popular Erick Stakelbeck from CBN and other prestigious networks was so kind and supportive that I just wanted to hug him. And Walid Phares, the brilliant world renowned expert on terrorism, stood with me in patience and warmth, asking me deep and interesting questions about myself and my homeland.
“I feel at home here,” I thought to myself, laughing about my previous fears of coming to Capitol Hill as an Israeli Jewish woman. And, indeed, that’s how it should be.
Israel and America are the greatest allies. We need each other. What happens in Israel is felt in America, and vice versa. We are branches of the same tree, representing values, faith, justice, and freedom. The Christian community in Israel is thriving unlike in any other country in the Middle East, just as the Jewish community is thriving in America, unlike any place in the world except for Israel.
Israel and America are not only allies; we are brothers and sisters. We give each other life.
As I sat at the panel on Capitol Hill and spoke passionately about Israel, there were only smiles, cheers, and words of encouragement coming from the VIP audience of advisors to congressmen, board members of large organizations, and involved individuals seeking knowledge and tools to further the relationship between Israel and America, as well as Christians and Jews.
My two week trip to America left me with a renewed sense of hope for the future. The world might look bleak and the leaders might look confused and misled, but there are millions of individuals who realize the value of strengthening the Israel-America bond, and having the Christian and Jewish communities stand together.
As I board my flight home to Israel, I am reminded of a stark fact; not only am I an advocate and goodwill ambassador for Israel when I travel to America, but I have a real responsibility to tell everyone I meet in Israel of the reality in America which I experienced – the America which truly stands for freedom and democracy and is dedicated to stand with Israel and the Jewish people.
Thank you, friends in America, for giving the people of Israel hope and friendship during these difficult and historic times! “How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!” (Psalm 133:1)
With blessings from the Holy Land,
Yael

Glenn: Prepare for a Time When Voices Like Mine are no Longer Heard

Below is a rush transcript of this segment: It is time we stop being sheep. It is time for our pulpits to start teaching reconciliation. Here’s a book I want you to go out and get today. I want you to get the Essential Speeches of Martin Luther King and start reading them. Please. I beg you. There’s so much of Martin Luther King that we don’t understand. There’s so much — he is — he’s right. Read his speeches and you will understand reconciliation. And what we have to do. It is the only hope. It is what — it is what Abraham Lincoln did at the end of the civil war. When they said they had Lee, what do you want me to do with him? He said, take your foot off his neck gently. Tell him to go home to their families. With malice toward none and charity toward all. That’s reconciliation. If you humiliate, if you demand a win, there’s going to be a loser. And the loser will not forgive you. And it will just perpetuate into the next one. So we’re looking for reconciliation here. What I’m afraid of is the Bubba Effect. And I’ve talked about this for about six years. I said, there’s going to come a time when you’ll start to have riots on the streets. There’s going to come a time when you’ll have terrorists come and do something. And the — and the feds will come in or the government will come in, and they will try to quell it or they’ll try to arrest somebody. And the town will say, uh-uh. Nope! You, United States government, you knew about it. You’re part of the problem. And the Bubba Effect comes from the one idea that — a Muslim goes and shoots somebody. And then Bubba, who just doesn’t — is not really paying attention. Sees a Sikh some place who wears a turban. Not a Muslim, but he’s a Sikh. But Bubba sees him and is like, you people. And he’s all enraged and he shoots a Sikh. Now, what’s going to happen? The DOJ has to come in and try him for murder. But because that town just experienced some sort of, you know, 40 kids in an elementary school shot and they knew that the federal government kept the borders open and these guys came across the borders, they were here illegally, or they were from that mosque down the street that everybody knew was an extremist mosque, but they did nothing about it. That’s when the citizens grab their guns and say to the DOJ, get the hell out of here. What Bubba did was wrong, but we’ll take care of it. We don’t need you here. Now, this is not my theory. This is the theory that I learned from the Special Forces command about eight years ago. This is about 2004, and I go to the east coast. I go, where is that? Is that in Virginia? Where was that? Special Forces command? Fort Bragg. I’m at Fort Bragg and I’m talking to the press, and I said, what is your number one concern? And they said the Bubba Effect. They said, that’s coming at some point in the future. Now, that hadn’t even occurred to me. This is before we’re really having any kind of real hatred and animosity toward each another. It’s the Michael Moore, you know, Fahrenheit 911 stuff. But we can handle all of that. It just happened. The beginning. Stage one just happened here in Dallas this weekend. And here it is. These marchers, they come in, Moms Against Police Brutality, and marchers for I don’t know, free all the Mexicans. I don’t know. Something about the border. … GLENN: Let them come in. Let them take jobs, whatever. So they’re marching down the street. And these guys are connected. They’re connected to the Nation of Islam. They’re connected to Open Society. George Soros. They’re connected to the Tides Foundation. This is a front group. This is front group. Pure and simple. The police are there. These groups are marching. But there’s somebody in between. It’s the open carry people. So now here are just citizens with long arms. They have a right to have the long arms. When asked by a reporter friend, what are you guys doing here? Well, we’re kind of the buffer between these guys and the police. What do you mean you’re the buffer between these guys and the police? Well, we know how the police reacted, listen to this, we know how the police reacted in Baltimore, and we want to make sure that, A, if there was any police brutality, we could kind of buffer that zone. If they start to push the cops, that we could be in between them so that the cops couldn’t really respond — so no bad stuff is going to happen. And if somebody starts looting our city, we’ll stop it. Because the police are going to be told like they were in Baltimore to stand down. Bubba Effect. There it is. That’s stage one. Nothing happened. So those guys went home. But now let me ask you something: If Bubba, who is carrying a long arm, they see somebody throwing mazel tov cocktails and they stop it, how many people in our community will say, no, no, no, wait a minute. You were told to stand down. These guys were burning our city down. They’re just neighbors in our neighborhood that are trying to stop these guys from burning our neighborhood down? A lot. We’re being set up, guys. We are absolutely being set up. And I don’t know — this is what I pray every night. I don’t know how to do this, Lord. I don’t know what you want. I don’t know — I don’t know what you want. I can’t wake up any — oh, if I had the voice of an angel. I can’t wake anybody else up. They’ve smeared me. I’ve helped them smear me. I don’t have any credibility. Nobody is listening. I can tell you what’s coming. I’ve told you every step of the way. I know what’s coming next. But I don’t know, how am I going to get people to listen? This is why, perhaps, I have said that you are going to be the key. Because I know that. I know that with everything in me. This audience changes the course in a good way. This audience pulls the republic back from the brink. And it’s not going to be me. It’s not going to be — it’s going to be you. But you need to know your role. And your role is as a peace — blessed be the peacemakers. You have to know what’s really going on. Because nobody is going to tell you. Next week, we’re going to show you, the stuff I found with Al Sharpton yesterday, I’m telling you, that’s right. With Al Sharpton saying, we fought against states’ rights in the ’60s so we had the right to vote, and in this century, we have to fight states’ rights, it’s time for the Department of Justice to take over policing in America. That’s what’s happening. That’s why they’re sending all the MRAPs and everything else to these cities because the intent is that the government — when the bottom rises up, the people will cry out for help. And the government will come top-down, and they’ll control your policing. That’s what’s happening. And local police departments, police officers, please, please, learn this. Please. Next week, we’ll show you all the connections. We’ll show you — once you tie it all together in your head, you’ll go, oh, my gosh, that’s exactly what’s happening. And only an understanding of this and then a peaceful informed public can stop it. Otherwise, we’re going to be played. I mean, this is the biggest show ever. That’s all that’s happening right now. This is a show. We’re watching a script and a play play out in front of us. None of this stuff is real. Those riots in Baltimore. That wasn’t real. How many times do we have to be told, most of the people are from out of town. All they need is one thing to get it started, that’s real: The shooting. Then all the people come from out of town, and they manipulate it and they wind everybody up and they get it rolling. Then they leave town and they go to the next one. And they go to the next one. And they go to the next one. And before long, it will all be over. And nothing will truly be solved. Is Ferguson solved? Has there been reconciliation in Ferguson? The answer is no. And because no reconciliation, there is a wound on both sides. Same thing in Baltimore. Is anything going to be solved in Baltimore? No. It will just calm down a bit. But there will be wounds on both sides. At some point, there will be a straw that breaks the camel’s back, and it will set the whole country on fire. And what happens? We will cry out for police help. The police will be overwhelmed. The DOJ will say, we’re going to take over policing. We’ll coordinate it from here. And you’re done. It’s lights out, Republic. That’s what’s coming. That’s what’s coming. And it’s coming faster than you think. Perhaps longer than we think we have. But you have to be the one that can lead. Because if you look back at history, what happens to people who have voices and can cobble together people and be a leader, if you go back to what happened with the Armenian genocide, what is the first thing the Turks did? What is the first thing the Nazis do? You have a night of long knives. The Armenian genocide. Any of the Armenians that could lead, any mayor, any writer, any person that was a hero in war, in one day, in each city, they would kill about 1,000 people. They would just slaughter them. And they were all the leaders of the community. Anyone that people would rally around and follow. They were killed, day one. They just disappear, or they’re killed. Which means, they do that so that there is nothing left, but sheep and no shepherds. I’m telling you now, if you want the republic to survive, you must say you are not a sheep. You are a shepherd. There are 10 million people that listen to this show. They cannot kill 10 million people in one night. You were born for a reason, and you’re listening to this show for a reason. Read the Essential Speeches of Martin Luther King. There is one way out. And it is through reconciliation, peace, love, the teachings of Jesus, the teachings of Gandhi, the teachings of Bonhoeffer, the teachings of Martin Luther King. Prepare for a time when voices like mine or others are no longer heard. And yours is the only voice. Can’t believe I just said all of that

"Out", He said, "Out"

PEOPLE ARE NOT YOUR PROBLEM
And He said to them, “This kind cannot come out by anything but prayer.” (Mark9:29)
One of the main truths you need to embrace with regard to Satan is understanding that people are not your problem. Satan is your problem. And Satan is their problem, too.
We Christians are all in the same war, and we all have the same enemy. Angels and demons are spirit beings without a physical form. Sometimes demons inhabit a form that they can use for their own ends. For example, Satan slithered in the garden as a snake. Jesus sent the legion of demons to drown in the bodies of swine.
Your problem isn’t the person you think it is. Your problem is that a demon is influencing them toward disruption.
Until you realize that your struggle is not with people but with the “spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places”—you will never live out the victory Christ Jesus has secured for you. The next time you face a challenge or enter into a conflict with someone, go to the Lord in prayer. On your knees, fight—and win—this battle, for the victory is the Lord’s. Pray for peace, protection, and wisdom for all parties involved and then watch what the Lord will do.
For His Kingdom,

Tony Evans

As Usual Coming Up With the Good Stuff

Israeli Scientists Offer Soldiers Fish-Inspired Protection

Considering that Israel is a global leader in innovation and security issues, it’s no wonder that Israeli scientists have developed new material that will vastly improve body armor, making it strong enough to protect soldiers from bullets and knife attacks.
Inspired by the scaly skin of fish, researchers from the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology designed a hybrid double-layered material that provides protection against penetration while preserving flexibility.
“The secret behind this material is in the combination and design of hard scales above with soft, flexible tissue below,” lead researcher Assistant Professor Stephan Rudykh told American Technion Society — a university-affiliated website — last month.
While strength and flexibility are generally competing properties, Rudykh said that his team found that by varying the angle in which the scales are arranged, it was possible to increase their resistance to penetration by up to 40 times, while the flexibility of the material only decreased by 5 times.
